Howdy folks,
I hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday afternoon. 🍋
As I help one of my clients market her book via podcasts, retail stores, corporations, and national parks after her initial launch, a thought came to my mind and I thought of all of you…
Book marketing, and marketing in general, is just like
losing weight, or
finding romance.
There’s a big initial push, and then, once the ball is rolling, continuous maintenance is key. Keeping the weight off and recovering from a fight with your husband is a lot easier if you’re in a mode of continuous maintenance.
After your initial book launch, you have the option to continue marketing your book forever. You can sell your book to book clubs, corporations, bookstores, gift shops…the list is endless. The only limit is your creativity.
In order to do this, you need to be in contact with people that run events, stores, podcasts, groups, etc. All of these people are always looking for stuff to stock on their shelves, content to record, or people to speak on their stages.
All you have to do…is ask.
😱 Asking is what trips up many, many people.
Even though this may seem like a small topic related to book marketing, many people remain frozen in fear to ask for anything, including book sales, dates, and help, simply because they are afraid of what people would think of them.
“What will they say? What if they say no? Or worse, what if they never respond?”
In the past, many of us get “ghosted” and take it as a hint that people don’t like us or think our laugh is too loud or think our sense of humor is a little too dark.
However, from my experience in business,
Silence never means no.
I learned this from one of Robert Kiyosaki’s initial book marketing coaches, Steve Harrison.
Silence never means no.
Say it to yourself anytime someone doesn’t respond to an email you sent them.
Say it to yourself when they don’t text back after a few days.
Say it to yourself when you ask for a sale and there are crickets.
What are the different things people could be busy with that they forget to respond?
⚽️ They got your message at their kids’ soccer practice but had to rush home before they could email you back?
👩🏽💻 They saw your request and got so overwhelmed that they shut down their computer at 2 am to deal with it in the morning but then forgot?
🐕 Their dog got sick or they were traveling or their mom got cancer or…?
This happens to you all the time, doesn’t it? You forget to answer a text or something in your life overwhelmed you and you had to deal with something else?
This happens to everyone.
This thought habit, that “silence never means no,” changed my life forever.
It gave me confidence to ask for followups well-after I initially asked. It got my booked stocked on shelves at retail stores, and helped me get contacts for a VP of Customer Service at a retail chain.
It helped my book get an endorsement from Jack flipping Canfield for crying out loud.
You deserve to get author blurbs, collaboration requests, and endorsements. But you have to ask first!
I know you feel fear. And I know you feel confusion.
But silence never means no.
Not in business.
Everyone started from zero. Everyone struggled with obscurity before they eventually began to bob along the surface of the waves.
Authors like Robert Kiyosaki and Jack Canfield didn’t start famous; they asked a lot of people to help them. Over and over and over again.
Silence never means no.
I still struggle with this myself. It used to ruin my whole week when someone didn’t respond right away to my initial request. The more I practiced thinking that “silence never means no,” the more fruit I could harvest.
If you ever need help snapping out of it, personally DM me, asking, “Renee, I just sent this email request and they haven’t responded after 3 days. Can you help remind me that silence never means no?”
I will slide right into your DMs and encourage the heck out of you.
Because you and your mission are that important to me.
Just promise me one thing.
That you will practice thinking…
“Silence never means no.”
Thank you for reading! ❤️ Hit the heart button on your way out to help spread this message.
